Animal Chiropractic
Why Animal Chiropractic?
Animal chiropractic aims to improve the health, performance and biomechanics of your animal. Trainers and owners of working and performance animals (eg- racing greyhounds, race horses, agility dogs and animals used in competition or show) seek chiropractic care to keep their animals performing at their best. Many pets also receive chiropractic care for this reason. Sometimes people will seek animal chiropractic care for their animal after an injury or if they notice signs or symptoms.
How do I know if my animal should see a chiropractor?
The signs and symptoms of Vertebral Subluxtion Complex include:
- Pain/tenderness,
- Asymmetry/change of alignment,
- Range of motion abnormality and/or
- Change in tone or texture of soft tissues
Using this criteria, some of the reasons people may seek chiropractic care for their animals include:
- Change/Irregularity in gait or stride
- Change/Irregularity in posture
- Signs of arthritis or age-related degeneration
- If the animal slips, falls or is involved in an accident
- Sensitivity when being touched or groomed
- Signs of pain
- Change of behavior or temperament
- Stiffness of the body or neck
- Difference in muscle size or tone
- Reluctance to jump or perform particular activities
- Reluctance to be held or touched
- Hip dysplasia
- “Puppy sitting” or sitting with legs off to one side
Does my animal need a referral for chiropractic care?
No, you do NOT need a referral to bring your animal to a chiropractor. Animal chiropractic works in conjunction with veterinary care, however, it is not a substitute for veterinary care. If your animal in injured, appears unwell or is lame (unable to weight bear/walk on one or more legs), we recommend you have them examined by your veterinarian.
